Playful murals are bringing the powerful healing potential of art to kids at Cedars-Sinai.

Original designs by contemporary artists from across the country are being installed on the ceilings and walls of 20 rooms that serve children admitted to the hospital. The artwork was donated to the Maxine Dunitz Children’s Health Center by RxArt.

RxArt is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children heal through visual art. They commission artists to transform sometimes-bland healthcare settings into beautiful, inspiring environments for healing, comfort, and happiness.

So far, one room is adorned with playful elephants balancing on balls. Another inspires the sense of walking through nature. CBS Los Angeles recently paid a visit to the vibrant new rooms to chat with patients about how art helps them heal.

The project fits in with Cedars-Sinai’s tradition of incorporating art into the healing process. The medical center is home to more than 4,000 paintings, sculptures, photos, drawings, and lithographs.
